President’s Message

Hello ladies,

Change!!!!! I know that a lot of us have trouble with change, but sometimes we have no choice but to accept it. On that note, the board voted not to have a quilt show in 2009( due to not having a suitable venue and as of this writing, no quilt show chairperson). I have reserved the Henderson Convention Center for 2010. They should be finished with their remodeling by then. So we have plenty of time to really go to town and create some wonderful quilts for that show.

Our general meeting will be May 15, 2008, at the Desert Rose Resort. Our guest speaker is Ellenanne Eddy. Reserve this date and also May 16, and May 17 for her two classes. Hope to see you all there.
Just a heads up for all the circles that do charity quilts. The board decided some months back that each circle is alloted $100.00 per year to purchase batting. Send your receipts with the proper requisition form to Bobbie and she will reimburse you(not to exceed $100.00). I hope this will help to defray some of the cost for the batting.
Keep working on your 12 for 12 projects and by the end of the year you will have 12 finished items.

Helping Hands Quilts

Bobbie Stember is organizing work on 10 new “Helping Hands” quilts for the guild. These quilts are loaned out to guild members recovering from illnesses to give them a boost and express the get well wishes of the guild membership.

Bobbie will be handing out 12” muslin squares to all the circle representatives. Each guild member is encouraged to take a square and decorate in any way. Remember to stay within the seam allowance, and please do NOT date your work.

Please — only one square per member regardless of how many circles you meet with. Non-members may sign someone else’s block but cannot do their own.

2008 DQN Board of Directors

Elections for the 2008 Board of Directors for the Desert Quilters of Nevada will be held at the Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 18, 2007 (for time and location see the DQN Calendar). The ballot for this election will be enclosed in the September/October 2007 newsletter. Directions will be included at that time on how to submit your vote through the mail if you will be unable to attend the October 18th meeting. Only members may vote. The ballots will tabulated the evening of the Annual Meeting and the new officers will be announced.

The following officers are willing serve in their current positions through the coming year:

Any member wishing to be added to the ballot for any of the above positions must submit their intensions in writing prior to August 1, 2007 to the address below. Nominations will not be taken from the floor the night of the Annual Meeting.
