October 2008 Black Mountain has worked hard this year making quilts for youths who are removed from their homes but are kept together as a family in secure locations. We send over 300 blocks to the Quilts of Valor group for wounded veterans fro Iraqi and Afghanistan. Over the spring and summer we did a quilt challenge for Spring. each making their own block and then bringing them to the circle to inspire and enjoy. Our biggest challenge was to make the quilt toppers for the retreat. I believe they were a great success.
The Black Mountain Circle is one of the few circles that meet in the evening. We are more of an inspirational group rather than a working group. Our talent ranges from semi-new to very gifted quilters. We share what we are doing and help guide those who ask for help. We learn to make a variety of blocks as well as work on charity quilts which we take home and finish then donate to the community.
Group members like to participate in our Round Robin in which we make up the rules than immediately dismiss them; in other words- there are no real rules! A few times in the year we have a sew-in and luncheon on a Saturday or Sunday.
We would love to have you join our Black Mountain group. Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the home of Kathy Farris at 7:00 p.m. You may contact Kathy at 565-9065.
