All about DQN
All About Desert
Quilters of Nevada
Desert Quilters
of Nevada, the first quilt guild in Southern
Nevada, is a nonprofit organization formed to promote, encourage and preserve
the art of quilt making by developing appreciation of fine quilts, sponsoring
and supporting quilting activities, teaching techniques and the history of
quilting and quilt making.

Meetings
Circle Schedules). Our
Annual Guild Meeting is held each October with at
least three other General Guild Meetings during the year.
Quilt Show
Every spring the Desert Quilters sponsors
a Quilt Show to provide members with an opportunity to display their quilts. A
Fashion Show and Miniature Auction are also part of this event. Our yearly
Opportunity Quilt Winner is also chosen during our show. However for the year
2009 we will not produce a show because the venue that we use is being
renovated. So look for us the third week in March which is the16 thru 21,
2010,
Retreat/s
Retreats provide a weekend “away from it
all” with optional classes,
projects and social activities of special interest to quilters. All meals are
included in our nominal fee. We usually go away from the Vegas area so
that we can totally concentrate on our craft, share a special time with friends
that we see only at guild gatherings and learn new and exciting techniques.
Fall Retreats
The Fall Retreats provide a weekend
“away from it all” with optional classes,
projects and social activities of special interest to quilters. All meals are
included in our nominal fee.
Quilt Challenge
Our Quilt Challenge provides an
opportunity for members to compete
with each other on even terms and have lots of fun too.
Normally it is held in January at the General Meeting but in 2010 it was February 25th.
Newsletter
The Guild newsletter “Chatter” is
published every other month and contains
information on meetings, activities, exhibits, programs and membership.
Each member may place one personal (non-business) ad per year.
Membership
If you are interested in quilting and
seeking friendship and inspiration from
fellow quilters, you are invited to become a member of Desert Quilters of
Nevada.
Call the Membership Chairman,
Mary Sprenger, 4012 Briar Ct, Las Vegas, Nevada, 89115 phone 702-644-4354

Important Reminder
Each Circle needs to have their
roster to the board ASAP. If you Circle has not sent it in, please do so now.
Send to Donna Kloehn,
Secretary at amdk1@hotmail.com
or Bobbie Stember, President at
bobbie2quilt@aol.com
Why? The Guild is a legal
entity. We are incorporated and are also a 501c3 organization. This means we
have rules we are obligated to follow. For a Circle to be affiliated with
Desert Quilters of Nevada, we need a roster showing that half of your members
are also members of Desert Quilters of Nevada.
What happens if my Circle
elects not to share their roster or if less than half our members are members of
Desert Quilters? Your circle will cease to be affiliated with Desert Quilters.
Your individual membership will still be valid and you will continue to receive
the newsletter, be able to attend classes, and all of the other Guild
activities. You can continue to attend your circle, and of course, you can
attend any circle in the Guild.
Why does affiliation matter? By
affiliating with Desert Quilters, a Circle gets the benefits that come with
being part of a 501c3 organization. Your events/meetings are covered by our
insurance policy. If you need more information, please feel free to call
Ann Pugh 878-6149.
