Eclectic fabric mixes, vibrant designs, and a keen sense of humor characterize Rachel’s work.

While her garments and quilts can be whimsical, political or a personal statement it always reflects her love

of traditional quilt making.

DQN MINI‑RETREAT CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

MARCH 20‑21,2009--9AM to 4PM both days.

Join us for two days of fun, companionship, and learning.  The Henderson Convention Center cancelled their remodeling plans, too late for the Quilt Show but not too late for us to use for this substitute event.

Desert Landscape Wall‑Hanging ‑‑ Sandy Crawford

Here's your chance to make a wonderful desert landscape wall‑hanging, without having to go out and purchase all the fabrics needed to complete the project.  The required kit includes a fully sandwiched, quilted, and squared‑up desert background (approx 12 1/2" x 16"), ready to embellish with desert plants and rocks, which will also be included in the kit.  No two backgrounds will be exactly alike.

Diva Essential Designer Bag ‑‑ Mary Ashcroft

This class will leave students with a completed designer bag.  The 7" x 8" x 16" bag has a zippered closure, three outside pockets and seven inside pockets, including a large secret pocket.  The pockets were designed for the essentials such as a cell phone, keys, tissues, glasses, a water bottle, pens, lipsticks and the secret pocket for _ you decide!  The possibilities for embellishing this bag are many, and the fun of making it is great fun!  Coordinate with an outfit, for the seasons, or for your favorite people.

Exciting Embellishments ‑‑ Janett Rice

Whether it is a traditional quilt or an art quilt, the embellishments used on the quilt can make or break it.  Join Janett Rice in a fun day of embellishment excitement.  Bring an unfinished quilt or a finished quilt and let Janett help you take it to a new level through the creative use of embellishment items. We will use standard things like buttons and beads, yarns and strings, new items and old items.  But we will also use recycled items such as coffee filters, pop top tabs, candy wrappers, etc. to add excitement and interest to your quilt.  A kit will be used to make a small embellishment sampler at the beginning of the class and then the students will spend the rest of the class time embellishing their own quilt.

Strata‑Various  ‑‑ Carol Bruce

In this class we will combine basic fusible appliqué with simple patterns plus fast and easy strip piecing (and no seams to match!).  There will be a choice of fusible patterns such as spring flowers and butterflies, chickens, Christmas or Halloween as well as a choice of project sizes from table runners to wall hangings or quilts, all using the same easy techniques.  Strata can be made from your stash of scraps (scrapaholice rejoice!) or from coordinated fresh yardage in as many fabrics as desired

Return home with a few oxymoron blocks, in random order.
Day 2
M o r e
Random order blocks. Continue to play intuitive and improvisational games. Create impromptu Checker Board, discover Musical Chairs, and Piano Keyboard. Delight yourself with spontaneous design discoveries.
