So many ideas can come from this thought. Starting the show back up again, springtime, and hopefully an improving economy, people becoming more aware of their effect on our world, to make it a better place, new people in our government."Some times the hardest times help us go back to the simpler times." Many of you have helped over the years and know jobs backwards and forwards. We would love to have your expertise again. Those would have not had a chance to help at the show and find that you have time ( a year) to prepare for volunteering are also needed and wanted. It is important to e-mail us so that we have it in writing and we can refer back to the messages. If you work well with people, work well with changing money, have good scribing skills or just general all around helper, hanging quilts (may include getting on ladders) advertisements, helping out venders who need breaks. Please contact me, only if you are volunteering for the quilt show thanks Jamie Harris. We will have a Show Theme category that may be broken into to two categories depending on the amount of entries and sizes. This year there are cash prizes of $250.00 for Best of Show Large and Other (everything from wall hangings to table toppers to dolls.) Janett Rice will be our featured quilter at the show. She will razzle, dazzle you with her unique quilts and art work. Featured Artist Janett Rice Janett was born in Roswell, New Mexico a few months after the aliens landed. This close encounter might be the reason Janett has always gravitated toward ’things a little different.’ After living in many places in the USA and Canada, Janett moved to Henderson in 2000 with her husband Joseph Williams. At the time of the relocation from the San Francisco Bay area she was employed by a textile testing company and worked out of her home. Although there was a lot of travel - both domestic and international involved with her job - this convenient set-up at home allowed her to devote more time to developing her art instead of commuting to work. Before her career in the apparel industry, Janett taught school for about 12 years. She tried her hand at teaching high school but the required discipline soon drove her to teach the more motivated students at the university level. She taught apparel design, fashion illustration, clothing construction and patternmaking classes at 3 major universities and co-authored the textbook Ready-to-Wear-Apparel Analysis. Teaching runs in her family and is in her blood, so soon after moving to Henderson, Janett began teaching art quilting classes for DQN and local quilt shops. Janett loves to teach and now is starting to teach art quilting classes on a national level.Janett takes pride in keeping up with new developments in the art quilting world and makes a point to take classes and attend seminars presented by national teachers at local, regional and national shows. She brings back these new ideas and techniques, puts her own twist on them, uses them in her own work and also passes them on to her students. After Janett had been in the Vegas area for about a year she discovered Art Quilts, Etc., a small circle of DQN. Wow! What a unique group of talented women! Janett was in art quilting heaven. After visiting the group for a meeting or two, she was so smitten that she made a point to take a vacation day from work once a month so she could attend the daytime meetings. This group can be credited with exposing Janett to many new ideas, new teachers and new products which in turn led Janett to developing her confidence and her art quilting skills at a very rapid pace. As a result, Janett has entered her work in many local, regional and national shows and has had several pieces juried into these shows. To see some of Janett’s work go to her website at www.Janettricefiberart.com. To schedule a class with Janett go to her website or to www.findaquiltteacher.com.
